WEEK # 1 - GAME # 3   RICHMOND BANSHEES at BUSTER BATTALIONS

The Buster's Battalions nipped the Richmond Banshees 5 to 4 at Dogbone Meadows in a hard fought contest.

Richmond was unable to climb back into it after Buster's went ahead for good in the bottom of the 7th inning scoring one runner.  Jean Segura doubled.

Diego Castillo then uncorked a pitch that was ruled a passed ball.  Ketel Marte then drew a walk.  Marte took second on a stolen base.  Rafael Devers stepped into the box and was walked intentionally to load the bases.  After another out, Gleyber Torres came to the plate and hit a sacrifice fly scoring the run.  Richmond had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.

The victory went to Zack Wheeler (1-0) who went 7 innings, allowing 4 runs. Wheeler got relief help from Aroldis Chapman who 2 saves in 3 games this year!

WEEK # 1 GAME # 1  CONCORD GRAPE at GILEAD GUNSLINGERS

Things started out well in game 1 as Gilead got 3 runs in the bottom of the 1st highlighted by a 2 RBI double from highly touted rookie Vlad Guerrero Jr. Starting pitcher Jake Junis was unable to hold the lead and gave up 3 runs in the 6th inning to tie the game 3-3. Stayed that way until bottom of the 9th. Harold Ramirez lead off with a single and Billy Hamilton came in to pinch run and immediately stole 2nd. Jason Kipnis layed down a sacrifice bunt which was thrown away by Concord 3B Austin hedges allowing Hamilton to score the winning run. Gilead wins 4-3 with all 4 runs unearned.

After their very first win it was all down hill from there for Gilead as they drop the next 2 games 4-2 and 5-4 respectively. The Gunslingers could not catch any breaks and the dice just didn't roll their way as they missed on 3 separate HR 1-16 chances in the final 2 games.

Bright spot was prized rookie Vlad Jr. going 4 for 8 with 2 doubles and a HR and 3 RBIs.

Jarlin Garcia (1-0) allowed no runs in 2/3 of an inning, and picked up thevictory. Paul Fry earned his 2nd save.  The losing pitcher was ChrisSale (0-1).  He pitched 9 innings allowing the ONLY hit and 2 walks.

WEEK # 1 GAME # 1   ROCKY MOUNTAIN OYSTERS vs NAR SHADDAA MADALORIANS

My Wife asked me to watch TV today. I told her it is opening day. She understood!

Rocky Mountain travels to Nar Shaddaa for game 1 of the season. Verlander vs Houser.

Rocky Mountain jumps on Verlander for 3 in the first. Single runs in the 3rd and 4th and Rocky is up 5-0.

Marcus Semien hits the first HR of the season to make it 5-1. The Oysters scrap a run across in the 8th to extend the lead.

The Oysters forget to bring their gloves out for the bottom of the 8th. 2 errors end up making it 6-3. In the bottom of the 9th down by 3 the Mandalorians come back. Lane Thomas hits a pinch hit 2 run HR. Then Giancarlo Stanton hits a pinch hit triple but it is modified into a double... but he comes home anyways on a CFx as the centerfielder Springer just can't get to the ball and the game is tied.

Then in a battle of the bullpens... nothing until the bottom of the 14th. Jake Rogers who is the backup catcher hits a single. One out later, Ronald Acuna hits a double into the gap.  It's 1-9  to send the "fleet footed" Rogers. Nar Shaddaa goes for it and gets a 7 (gee wiz, the Las Vegas Pit Boss knows "roll 'em"... and knows when to "fold 'em") comes up to send the crowd into a frenzy.

Nar Shaddaa wins it with a 7-6 final. 161 more games to go........

   BLOCK # 2 HIGHLIGHTS

A NOOOO HITTER!

WEEK # 5 GAME # 3  RICHMOND BASHEES at MISSISSIPPI BIG ORANGE

The Mississippi Big Orange have recorded only the **2nd** no-hitter in the 25 year history of the franchise that does include some all-time great pitchers.  How unlikely was this one?  Mississippi's Kolby Allard tossed a gem the final game of the series against last year's runner-up the Richmond Banshees.    Mississippi pushed across 2 late runs against the Banshees' Kenta Maeda to secure the win.  Manager John Polumbo considered going to the bullpen in the 9th inning for the combined no-hitter attempt but let Allard see it through.

KOLBY THROWING LAST PITCH VS. RICHMOND

And incredibly, looking at the league web page,  Maeda had recently thrown a no-hitter himself.  Has a pitcher ever been on the winning and losing end of a no-hitter in the same season?

Big Orange...... 0 0 0  0 0 0  1 1 x  -  2  5  1

Big Orange trivia.

The other no-hitter was thrown by Gil Meche in his final start with Mississippi 10 years ago against the Michigan/Toronto franchise in Week 27.    We have been no-hit twice.    Once by Concord's Daniel Cabrera and once by the Indy Clowns  Ryan Vogelsong.

All 4 of these no-hitters were thrown in my park.

OH YEAH..."WELL I'M RUBBER... AND YOU'RE GLUE... WHAT BOUNCES OFF ME... WILL STICK TO YOU!!"

TAKE THAT.... A NO-HITTER.... RIGH BACK AT YA.

WEEK # 8 GAME # 3   McHENRY COUNTY CYBERMEN vs RICHMOND BANSHEES

Kenta Maeda (1-1) thrilled the fans at Battle Grounds as he crafted a no-hit masterpiece against the McHenry County Cybermen.  The Richmond Banshees won by a final score of 7 to 0.

Maeda was cheered on with every out from the 7th inning onward.  The adrenaline had to be just pumping through his veins.  The atmosphere was electric out there in Battle Grounds tonight! He walked 3 McHenry County batters.

The tension was mounting with every inning after the 6th.  Maeda appeared oblivious himself to the mounting history until two were out in the 9th.  Only then, did he allow himself one deep sigh and a slow trip around the mound.  Richmond rapped out 11 hits for the night.

Jose Quintana (0-3) was the losing pitcher.  He allowed 6 hits and no walks in 5 and 1/3 innings.  "Maeda made us look bad" Evan Steinberg said. "I've seen a lot of good performances in my time and this one will be tucked away in my memory bank for a long time to come"

      BLOCK # 3 HIGHLIGHTS

WHO EVER SAID THAT STRAT-O-MATIC WASN'T REALISTIC?

WELL IT IS... IT REALLY IS!

BECAUSE IT'S OPEN SEASON ON CHAD GREEN!

WEEK # 10 - GAME # 3  MICHIGAN MARVELS at ROCKY MOUNTAIN OYSTERS

[1]BOXSCORE: 2020 Michigan Marvels At 2020 Rocky Mountain Oysters       6/6/2020

[1]WEEK 10 # 3  - ONE OF MY WORST GAMES EVER. EVERYTHING WAS A HIT VS. GREEN. YIKES!

Now granted... I did leave Green in a little longer than I probably should have.... BUT... I planned on using him for 5 innings... which helped preserve some Bullpen innings.

This was Green's 1st start of the Season.... and he got CLOBBERED. Every time I rolled the Dice on the Computer... it was a hit... and an Extra Base hit at that.....

So.... Green's ERA after 1 game is an astronomical 34.20

Realistic versus Real Life.... well... Last year for the Yankees, through 7.1 innings (which all came in Starting Pitcher assignments), Green gave up 12 hits, 10 Earned Runs and 4 Home Runs.... for an ERA of 12.67   The point is.... he got BOMBED in Real Life.... and he got BOMBED for the Oysters!  Yep... it sure looks realistic to ME...

Left fielder Justin Upton slammed 2 homeruns and had 8 RBI as the Rocky Mountain Oysters were badly beaten by the Michigan Marvels, 23 to 4.

Upton enjoyed a big day at the plate.  He lofted a three-run 'big-fly' in the 1st inning, doubled resulting in a run in the 2nd inning and rifled a three-run blast in the 6th inning.  Michigan bats were hot in the 2nd inning when they had 5 runs on 7 hits and the 5th inning when they had 7 runs on 8 hits.

Michigan kept the pressure on throughout the contest as they scored in 6 different innings.

The win was credited to Mike Clevinger (2-4) who went 6 and 1/3 innings allowing 2 runs. Chad "the Human Sacrifice" Green (0-1) was hit with the loss.  He was "touched"..... nah... let's call it what it was.... he was "man-handled" for 4 homeruns in his 5 innings of work.

ALBANY INTERNATIONALS - BLOCK # 3 HIGHLIGHTS

Best homestand of the year for the Internationals, fueled by some extraordinary luck vs a powerful Gotham team with Bellinger-Bregman-Soler a combined 5-34 with 1 RBI and 1 run among them! I imagine the Batmen will be looking for revenge at their place.

Albany absorbed its worst loss of the season at the hands of caffeine fueled Kona Coast in a 17-1 drubbing that got out of hand quickly as KC scored 9 runs in the first inning ,  Coasting to victory from there.

KONA COAST COFFEE GROWERS at ALBANY INTERNATIONALS

Internationals...... 0 0 1  0 0 0  0 0 0  -  1  9  2

Jurickson Profar collected 2 extra-base hits and had 4 RBI as the Kona Coast Coffee Growers clobbered the outmatched Albany Internationals, 17 to 1.

Profar led the offense for Kona Coast.  He tripled plating all three baserunners in the 1st inning, doubled resulting in a run in the 3rd inning and delivered a single in the 9th inning.  Kona Coast bats were very productive in the 1st inning which saw them plate 9 runs on 6 hits, the 3rd inning with 4 runs on 5 hits and the 4th inning when they had 4 runs on 3 hits.  Neither team managed to score after the 4th inning.

Madison Bumgarner (7-4) was the winner allowing 1 run in 7 innings. The losing pitcher was Lewis Thorpe (0-1).  He got hit hard, allowing 11 hits and 4 walks in 3 innings.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN WINS 9 GAMES IN A ROW!

What is going on in Centennial, Colorado? The Rocky Mountain Oysters have been on Fire! Wallowing around the the .500 mark all season with no real expectations of making it to the Playoffs... the Oysters entered their toughest part of their Schedule... having to play the "elite" teams from the Eastern Division (Albany, Richmond and Busters)... plus last year's League Champion Stanford. Manager Jeff Fleischman was ready to get some "Flex Seal" to shore up the "leak in his sinking boat".... but all of a sudden... THE HITS AND RUNS... AND EXCELLENT RELIEF PITCHING wouldn't stop.

WEEK 14 - a strong WIN in the 1st game vs Stanford... following by two frustrating losses... a real "choke" in Game # 2.... kind of brought us down to Earth and reminded us that we were playing last seasons League Champion! Game # 3 really hurt... but we kind of knew that we didn't have all the parts and pieces to compete with the "Big Boys".....

SO.... WHO'S NEXT????  IT'S BEEN A GREAT RIDE!

WEEK # 14 - GAME # 3  MICHIGAN MARVELS at WRIGLEY RAIDERS

Third baseman Eugenio Suarez blasted 3 homeruns and had 5 RBI as the Michigan Marvels topped the Wrigley Raiders by a score of 12 to 4 at  Wrigley Field.

EUGENIO SUAREZ’S ONE-MAN SHOW VS. THE WRIGLEY RAIDERS!

                  HOME RUN # 1                              HOME RUN # 2                           HOME RUN # 3

Suarez was really in "the zone".  He ripped a solo home run in the 6th inning, belted a three-run homer in the 7th inning and smashed a bases-empty "big-fly" in the 9th inning.  Offensively, Michigan was a juggernaut.  They scored in 6 separate innings.

The victory went to Drew Pomeranz (2-1) who went 2 and 2/3 innings, allowing no runs. Matt Albers (1-1) ended up with the loss in relief.  Michigan now has a record of 34-47.  Don Sprague was pretty down after the loss.  "We've really been sputtering along lately, something like 2-8 in the last week or two". As I know too well... That won't get it done. I told my guys that "THEY BETTER SHAPE UP...... Cause I'm not going down alone!"

WEEK # 17 - GAME # 2  MICHIGAN MARVELS at GREENSBORO SMOKE

In a game at The Smokehouse the Greensboro Smoke got by the Michigan Marvels by the score of 12 to 9.

An offensive explosion by Greensboro in the bottom of the 8th inning ended any Michigan hopes for a victory showing no mercy on Michigan as they plated 7 runs on 7 hits.  The big moment was provided by Pablo Sandoval who brought a roar from the partisan The Smokehouse fans when he blasted a two-run home run.  Greensboro had 15 hits overall, while Michigan had 9.

Shaun Anderson (2-4) went 2 and 2/3 innings allowing 5 runs for the victory. The losing pitcher was Drew Pomeranz (2-2) in relief.  He surrendered 3 hits and no walks in 2/3 of an inning.

Greensboro Smoke fans were VERY HAPPY....because their team scored 7 or more runs in a game... which means.... FREE BBQ SMOKED RIBS FOR EVERYONE.... at Manager Lars Nielsen's Smokehouse Restaurant!..  well this happened due, in part to Catcher - Tony Wolters - who had 4 hits and 2 RBI at The Smokehouse as the Greensboro Smoke beat the Michigan Marvels by the count of 10 to 8.

In the bottom of the 3rd inning Greensboro went on top for good with 2 runs on 3 hits.  Wolters led off and started the attack as he ripped a base-hit.

After an out was recorded, Tommy Edman came to the plate and smacked a single.  Dylan Moore struck out, unable to help the rally.  Corey Dickerson stepped in and he doubled driving in two more baserunners.  Michigan had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.

Danny Duffy (4-4) allowed 5 runs in 7 and 1/3 innings, and picked up the victory. Roberto Osuna got the save, his 17th.  The loss was charged to Walker Buehler (8-5).  He was unable to control the Greensboro offense and allowed 11 hits and 3 walks in 5 and 2/3 innings.

"Just one or two mistakes were all it took to beat us today" Will Polumbo said.  "We take these games one day at a time... but we take them VERY SERIOUSLY... but this one was hard to take."

    BLOCK # 5 HIGHLIGHTS

WEEK 19 - GAME # 1   LATROBE DAWGS at LONG ISLAND HOUNDS

First baseman Josh Bell left the yard and had 3 RBI as the Latrobe Dawgs topped the dreadful (who writes this stuff?.... must be the Fake News.... no, I don't really mean that) Long Island Hounds by a score of 12 to 7 at Coors Field. (It's probably a very talented beat writer in the Strong Island area of NY. You see, it gives Long Islander's a sense of pride vs. saying they are from just Long IslandNY. There are many other New York examples where the locals nickname their area... but Long Island ir probably the BEST!

Anyway.... Bell provided much of the offense.  He doubled in the 4th inning and launched a three-run homer in the 8th inning.  Long Island was not lacking for run support as they scored in 5 separate innings, yet victory eluded them as they seemed to forget that pitching is also needed to win ballgames.

The victory went to Vince Velasque(3-2) who went 7 innings, allowing 4 runs. Zach Eflin (4-10) was the loser.  He surrended 4 homeruns in his 8 innings.

WEEK 19 - GAME # 3   LATROBE DAWGS at LONG ISLAND HOUNDS

Did I say.... DREADFUL?  Uh... I think it's even worse that that!!

Jack Flaherty whiffed 10 batters and catcher Francisco Mejia blasted a homerun and had 3 RBI as the Latrobe Dawgs clobbered the outmatched and reeling Long Island Hounds, 14 to 2.

Flaherty (11-7) pitched one of his finer games as he simply was too much for the Long Island batters.  He surrendered only 2 hits and no walks in 7 innings dropping his ERA from 4.67 to 4.46. (Oooooh!) Latrobe had 14 hits for the game and Long Island had 5.

Andrew Cashner (5-9) ended up with the loss. Latrobe knocked him around a bit, as he gave up 5 runs in 3 innings.  "I know it's hard to tell the difference... but I had my good stuff tonight." Flaherty said. "As the game went along I started to get the feeling that I was going to strike out a bunch of hitters.... or get sent to the Minors. But I think I'm a Top of the Rotation kind of guy... and I'm here to stay!"

WEEK 21 # 3  McHENRY CYBERMEN at ROCKY MOUNTAIN OYSTERS

Catcher Willson Contreras blasted 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI at Centennial Field as the McHenry County Cybermen belted, demolished, dismantled, wrecked, shattered and all the other synonyms... the Rocky Mountain Oysters by the count of 21 to 1.

"This game was hard to believe", said Oyters Manager, Jeff Fleischman. "But I was there!" he added. The game was held up in the 3rd inning as a RIOT broke out in Section # 314 and quickly spread thoughout the entire Upper Level of Centennial Field. The National Guard was called in to quell this mayhem. Citizens came over from the local Gun Show that was being held at the adjoining Cojones Auditorium. They sprayed the hoodlums and hooligans with Paint Bullets, and finally Law and Order was restored.

As for the action in the game, Contreras propelled McHenry County to the victory.  He clubbed a solo home run in the 4th inning, doubled scoring a run in the 5th inning and popped a two-run clout over the fence in the 7th inning.  McHenry County bats were HOT- HOT - HOT versus Adrian Houser in the 2nd inning which saw them score 5 runs on 3 hits, the 3rd inning which saw them score 5 runs on 4 hits and the 4th inning when they had 6 runs on 7 hits.  McHenry County kept the pressure on throughout the contest as they scored in 6 different innings.

Patrick Corbin (5-11) was the winner allowing 1 run in 8 innings. The loss was charged to Adrian Houser (6-8).  Due to sore arms in the Bullpen, he was told before the game that he needed to pitch at least 5 innings... but couldn't make that happen as he was touched for 3 homeruns in his 3 and1/3 innings of "work". His ERA shot up from  5.48 to 6.87

       BLOCK # 6 HIGHLIGHTS

]WEEK 24 # 2 - YES.. I QUICK PLAYED IT, BUT BIGGEST BLOWOUT FOR ME IN 50 YEARS!  UNLIKE ABOVE... THIS WAS MY WORST GAME EVER!

Matt Olson cracked 5 homeruns as the powerful Nar Shaddaa Mandalorians crushed the Rocky Mountain Oysters 33 to 6.

Olson was unconscious all evening.  The Rocky Mountain fans hated to see him approaching the batter's box as he just kept delivering base hits! He delivered a single knocking in a run in the 1st inning, clubbed a two-run home run in the 2nd inning, ripped a solo home run in the 3rd inning, delivered a one-base hit in the 5th inning, cleared the bases with a Grand Slam homerun in the 5th inning, blasted a two-run home run in the 5th inning and smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' in the 9th inning.  Nar Shaddaa bats were very productive in the 1st inning which saw them score 5 runs on 5 hits and the 5th inning when they had 18 runs on 13 hits.  Nar Shaddaa simply wore out the Rocky Mountain pitching staff, scoring in 6 different innings.

Logan Webb (2-2) picked up the victory, allowing 6 runs in 5 and 1/3 innings.

The loss was charged to Chad Green (1-8).  He served up 7 homeruns in his 6 innings.
