WEEK 25 - GAME # 1.... MICHIGAN MARVELS at CHICAGO MOB

One run was the difference at Terrapin Fields as the Chicago Mob defeated the Michigan Marvels 4 to 3.

Chicago jumped on top of Michigan in the bottom of the 4th inning scoring one runner utilizing 2 base hits.  Michigan tried unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th. 

The win was credited to Matt Peacock (3-8) who went 5 innings allowing 2 runs. Ryan Pressly gained credit for his 27th save.  Anthony Desclafani (14-8) was the losing pitcher.  He pitched 4 and 1/3 innings giving up 8 hits and 1 walk.

      

WEEK 25 - GAME # 2 ..... MICHIGAN MARVELS at CHICAGO MOB

Kyle Seager had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the Chicago Mob topped the Michigan Marvels by a score of 4 to 3 at Terrapin Fields.

 

Chicago scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning when they had 4 base hits.  The biggest moment was provided by Seager who made the home-town crowd a happy bunch when he slapped a single bringing in two baserunners.  Michigan made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across. 

Taylor Hearn (4-10) was the winner allowing 1 run in 6 innings. Ryan Pressly earned the save, his 28th.  The losing pitcher was Aaron Nola (13-8). 

When questioned about the loss, Will Polumbo said, #@*!&# or something like that. Actually, he said... "The fans got to see an exciting game out there tonight. Unfortunately, we couldn't get it done this time.  Next time (or perhaps next year) though, we'll be the clubhouse with all the smiles."

Week 25 - Game # 1.... NORTHWEST OHIO FRANCONIANS at McHENRY CYBERMEN

Willson Contreras had 2 base hits and 2 RBI and Elieser Hernandez racked up an impressive total of 10 strikeouts at The Tardis as the impressive McHenry County Cybermen pulled off a dramatic comeback beating the awful NW Ohio Franconians by the count of 3 to 2.

McHenry County won the game with a rally in the 9th inning scoring 2 runs on 2 hits.  Tyler Naquin led off and got things going when he reached on an error.  Two outs later Jose Abreu came to bat and banged out a single.

Contreras then doubled giving McHenry County the victory and sending the 46,552 home-town fans home happy.  Both teams finished the game with 5 hits.

The win was credited to Yohan Ramirez (2-0) who went 2 innings allowing no runs. Chasen Shreve (3-5) was hit with the loss in relief.  He was unable to retire a batter and surrendered 2 hits and no walks.

"Caballa Santa!" Ramirez said afterward. "Si tan solo mi madre estuviera aquí para verme jugar."

GAME 1

Christian Yelich had 4 hits and 3 RBI as the Albany Internationals defeated the Gilead Gunslingers by a score of 8 to 2 at Thunder Dome.

 

Yelich helped send the fans home happy.  He ripped a single which plated a run in the 2nd inning, singled in the 4th inning, hit a one-base hit which scored a run in the 5th inning and hit a bases-empty home run in the 7th inning.

Offensively, Albany was a juggernaut.  They scored in 6 separate innings.

The victory went to Lance Lynn(14-8) who went 6 innings, allowing no runs.Taylor Widener (5-1) took the loss.  He was knocked around by Albany, allowing 11 hits and 4 walks in 4 and 1/3 innings.  

 

GAME 2

 In a two run game the phenomenal Albany Internationals got by the Gilead Gunslingers by the score of 4 to 2.

 

 Albany had the winning rally in the 8th inning with 2 runs on 2 hits.  Ramon Laureano led off and started the attack as he drew a walk.  Laureano was safe at second on a stolen base.  Michael Brantley then lined a base-hit scoring a run.  Nicholas Castellanos followed and he drew a walk.  Freddie Freeman struck out, unable to help the rally.  After another out, Jason Castro came up and he stroked a one-base hit scoring the final run of the inning. 

 

Nick Sandlin (2-1) got relief help from Kendall Graveman who was excellent in relief and gained credit for his 25th save.  

Austin Adams(3-2) ended up with the loss in relief.  He surrendered 1 run and no hits in 2/3 of an inning.

 

GAME 3

Javier Baez went deep and had 2 RBI as the Gilead Gunslingers topped the Albany Internationals by a score of 7 to 6 at Thunder Dome.

 

The game was decided in the top of the 9th inning.  Baez singled. After an out was recorded, Lewis Brinson stepped up to the plate and he ripped a base-knock scoring the run. 

 

Due to a poorly pitched ballgame, scoring in 5 different innings was still not enough for Albany to come away with the victory. 

 

The victory was credited to David Bednar (5-2) who went 2/3 of an inning, allowing no runs. Bednar got relief help from Andrew Chafin who gained credit for his 36th save.  Louis Head (2-2) ended up with the loss in relief.  He pitched 1 and 1/3 innings giving up 2 hits and no walks.

The Gilead Gunslingers edged the Albany Internationals in 11 innings at Jericho Hill Park by the score of 2 to 1.

Both teams were tied at 1 runs apiece after nine innings.  Gilead won the game in the 11th inning.  Lamonte Wade Jr lofted a solo-blast that busted the window of Abruzzi Pizza in "Downtown" Brookhaven making Gilead the victors to the delight of the faithful eating their Pepperoni Pizza and Calzone sandwiches.  Albany out-hit Gilead 10 to 5, but Gilead ended up with more runs. 

Chris Stratton (4-1) got credit for the victory, pitching 3 innings andallowing no runs. Hirokazu Sawamura (1-1) was hit with the loss in relief.  He gave up 2 hits and 1 walk in 1 and 1/3 innings. 


WEEK 27 - GAME # 3   MISSISSIPPI BIG ORANGE at RICHMOND BANSHEES

Brandon Crawford jacked one out of the ballyard and had 3 RBI as the Richmond Banshees were BADLY beaten by the Mississippi Big Orange, 16 to 5.

Brett Martin (4-1) was solid in relief, and he got credit for the win.  He allowed just 2 hits and no walks in 2 innings. Mississippi bats were very productive.... actually they were "ON FIRE"  in the 8th inning when they scored 5 runs on 3 hits AND the 9th inning which saw them plate 5 runs on 5 hits.  Mississippi simply wore out the Richmond pitching staff like an old Door Mat.... scoring in 6 different innings. 

Yu Darvish (6-9) was hit with the loss.  He allowed 11 hits and 3 walks in 6 innings. But it really was Garrett Richards that caused the game to get  W A Y out of hand, as he gave up 7 runs (5 earned) on 7 hits in an Inning and a 1/3. Needless to say, he won't be getting a Christmas card this year from Darvish. 

 

WEEK 26 - GAME # 3   GOTHAM CITY BATMEN at ROCKY MOUNTAIN OYTERS

Cole Irvin carried a no-hitter into the 6th inning as the Rocky Mountain Oysters defeated the Gotham City Batmen 2 to 0 at Centennial Field.

Irvin (6-12) came through with a virtuoso performance against the Gotham City hitters.  He allowed only 2 hits and 4 walks in 9 innings reducing his ERA from 4.73 to 4.46.  The left-handed Irvin lost a no-hitter when Jose Iglesias singled with nobody out in the 6th inning.  Rocky Mountain managed only 3 hits (A TYPICAL FEAT) on the night. 

Sonny Gray (5-2) is a loser.... I mean was the loser. He surrendered just 3 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings.  "Irvin just dominated us" losing pitcher Gray said.  "Hopefully we can get to him next year... if he's still with the Oysters."

As it turned out... Rocky Mountain lost the final two games of the Series (8 to 5 and 2 to 0). They got 10 hits in game # 2, but only 3 hits (again) in Game # 3.... an all too familiar occurance for the lowly Oysters!

 

WEEK 27 - GAME # 1   GREENSBORO SMOKE at ROCKY MOUNTAIN OYTERS

Kyle Schwarber cracked a homer and had 5 RBI at Centennial Field as the very strong Greensboro Smoke embarrassed the Rocky Mountain Oysters by the lopsided score of 12 to 2.

Schwarber enjoyed a  evening at the plate. He smacked a single which plated a run in the 4th inning, doubled bringing in a run in the 6th inning and launched a three-run homer in the 7th inning.

Rocky Mountain was out-hit, out-pitcher, out-played and out-smarted (ow!!) by Greensboro, 14 hits to 6. The win went to Luis Severino (1-0) who allowed no runs in 1 inning. Severino got help from Logan Allen who earned his 2nd save. Cole Irvin (6-13) ended up with the loss. He allowed a "few" too many baserunners... giving up 10 hits and 4 walks in 6 innings. The Greensboro ballclub's record now stands at a division leading 99-46. With the loss Rocky Mountain now has a record of 58-94, worst in the division!

 

WEEK 26 - NORTHWEST OHIO FRANCONIANS vs CHICAGO MOB

Larry was gracious enough to play our last series via netplay. 

That was very helpful as both of us were making sure to watch our usage. 

This series was very strange to say the least as the closest final margin of victory was only two runs. 

At Larry's park, the first game went to NWO 13-5 as Rowdy Tellez pounded two homers. 

Game two was a 7-5 NWO victory and game three was a 14-6 NWO victory. 

Moving to NWO, we anticipated the momentum would switch with Rodon on the hill for Larry.  WRONG!!  Chris Taylor drove in four runs with two doubles off Rodon's 4-6 double to 6 out the rest roll in an 8-4 NWO victory. 

Larry and Fred were wondering what the hell was going on.  Things would then change with CHM claiming 9-1 and 12-4 victories in the last two games. 

In the final game CHM pounded out 17 hits with 15 singles.   Both Bob and Larry were glad their seasons had come to an end!!!

WEEK 26 - GAME # 3  SEATTLE PILOTS at WASHINGTON SENATORS

In a dramatic ending at Nationals Stadium the Washington Senators won in their last at-bat beating the Seattle Pilots by the count of 3 to 1.

Washington came through with the game-winning runs in the 9th inning scoring 2 runs using 2 hits.  After two were out Jose Ramirez got things rolling when he lined a base-hit.  Dan Vogelbach followed and he lifted one out of the park for a two run home run resulting in an exciting win for Washington and a wild post-game celebration by the home town fans.  Both teams ended up with 6 hits on the night. 

The win was credited to Hector Neris (5-1) who went 2 innings allowing no runs. Carlos Hernandez (5-5) absorbed the loss in relief.  He allowed 5 hits and 1 walk in 3 and 2/3 innings. 


WEEK 27 - GAME # 3  SHORELINE SOCKEYES at WASHINGTON SENATORS

One run was the difference at Nationals Stadium as the Shoreline Sockeyes defeated the Washington Senators in 10 innings 5 to 4.

The game was deadlocked at 4 after nine full innings.  Shoreline won the hard fought contest in the 10th inning.  Brad Miller ripped a solo home run. Shoreline rapped out 8 hits for the night. 

Craig Kimbrel (3-3) went 1 and 2/3 innings allowing 1 run for the win. Tony Watson (7-2) ended up with the loss in relief.  He allowed 2 hits and no walks in 1 and 1/3 innings.

                      

 

 

WEEK 23 - GAME # 1 - SEATTLE PILOTS at ROCKY MOUNTAIN OYSTERS

Myles Straw had 3 base hits as the Seattle Pilots defeated the Rocky Mountain Oysters in 10 innings by a score of 12 to 6 at Centennial Field.

I put together a suprising rally in the 8th inning and tied the score at 6 to 6. Back-up Shortstop (to save AB's for Story) Niko Goodrum started things off with a solid Double to the gap in Right-Center.  "Whitless - Hitless" Whit Merrifield reached 1st on an error by your Shortstop, Kiner-Falefa. Merrifield promptly stole 2nd base. With men on 2nd and 3rd, Lemahieu watched Ball Four go by to load the bases. Hosmer got a solid "2-10" Single to drive in 2 runs. Ryan Mountcastle, who continues to do a great job for the Oysters, called his shot.... "1-8" and blasted a 3 run Home Run to tie the score! 

  Yes, you wound up winning the game in the 10th inning.  And you got all the rolls...AND THE NECESSARY SPLIT NUMBERS TOO! The critical plate appearance was by Enrique Hernandez who deflated the mood of the partisan fans, who were celbrating Italian-American Heritage night at Centennial Field.... oh... wait...wait... wait... I thought he said "Parmesan fans".  Anyway, Hernandez bombed a two-run dinger.

Seattle had 17 hits for the game and Rocky Mountain had 11. 

Codi Heuer (2-3) went 1 and 1/3 innings allowing no runs for the victory. Dylan Floro (1-3) was tagged with the loss in relief.  He surrendered 3 hits and 1 walk in 1 inning.

 

WEEK 24 - GAME # 2 - MISSISSIPPI BIG ORANGE at GILEAD  GUNSLINGERS

Right fielder Juan Soto cracked 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI as the Gilead Gunslingers bested the Mississippi Big Orange 8 to 6 at Jericho Hill Park.

It was a good day for Gilead thanks to Soto.  He stroked a single in the 3rd inning, blasted a two-run home run in the 4th inning and smashed a solo-shot out of the park in the 6th inning.  Mississippi was set down quietly in the 9th. 

The winning pitcher was Andrew Chafin(2-3) who allowed 1 run in 2 innings. Lou Trivino (6-5) was hit with the loss in relief.  He gave up 2 runs and 1 hit in 2/3 of an inning.

 

WEEK 23 - GAME # 2   FENWAY FAITHFUL at ALBANY INTERNATIONALS

Jake Odorizzi reeled off a total of 11 strikeouts at Thunder Dome as the dominant Albany Internationals beat the Fenway Faithful in 10 innings 5 to 4.

Both teams had scored 4 runs after nine full innings.  Albany won the hard fought contest in the 10th inning.  After an out was recorded, Jean Segura doubled.  Ramon Laureano next to the plate and he laced a one-base hit giving Albany the win much to the delight of the home town crowd.  Both teams totaled 10 hits on the night. 

Tony Gonsolin (4-1) allowed no runs in 2/3 of an inning, and picked up the victory. Caleb Thielbar (2-3) was the loser in relief.  He surrendered 2 hits and no walks in 1 and 1/3 innings.

Robbie Grossman hit one over the fence at Centennial Field where the Mississippi Big Orange beat the Rocky Mountain Oysters by the score of 9 to 5.

                  
Mississippi scored 5 runs in the decisive 2nd inning when they came up with 5 base hits.  The highlight belonged to Yadiel Hernandez who deflated the crowd as he doubled which was good for two runs.  Mississippi finished with 16 hits while Rocky Mountain ended up with 5. 

The win went to Spencer Howard (4-0) who allowed 1 run in 5 innings. Cole Irvin (4-10) took the loss.  He was not very effective, surrendering 8 runs in 4 and 2/3 innings. 

"I'm grinnin' like a Possum eatin' a Sweet Tater" Manager John Polumbo sighed.  "That win makes me feel like a dead Pig in the Sunshine! In fact, if I felt any better, I'd drop my Harp plumb through the Clouds!"

Andrew Benintendi and Ryan Mountcastle each had 4 hits as the Rocky Mountain Oysters beat the Albany Internationals by a score of 10 to 2.

Benintendi also had 7 RBI's in the game. He blasted a two-run home run in the 3rd inning, slapped a single bringing in two baserunners in the 4thinning, doubled which was good for two runs in the 5th inning and lined a base-hit knocking in a run in the 7th inning.  Rocky Mountain finished with 15 hits while Albany ended up with 5. 

The victory went to Zach Plesac (7-5) who went 5 innings, allowing 2 runs. Johnny Cueto (4-7) took the loss.  He gave up 5 runs in 3 and 1/3 innings and saw his ERA jump from 5.22 to 5.55. 

The Rocky Mountain ballclub's record now stands at 49-63.  Not able to get much going in recent weeks, Albany is 0-10 of late and now has an overall record of 64-45.


WEEK 21 - GAME # 3  WASHINGTON SENATORS at MICHIGAN MARVALS

Catcher J.T. Realmuto had 2 base hits and Walker Buehler took a no-hitter into the 6th inning at Napolean Park as the Michigan Marvels beat the Washington Senators by the count of 3 to 1.

Buehler (13-5) gave Michigan a solid outing.  He allowed just 1 hit and 4 walks in 7 innings.  The right-handed Buehler lost his no-hit bid when Bryce Harper tripled with two outs in the 6th inning.  Michigan totaled 8 hits on the night. 

Alex Reyes preserved the game for Buehler, recording his his 29th save.  Max Scherzer (11-4) was hit with the loss.  He surrendered 7 hits and 3 walks in 5 and 1/3 innings.

The Michigan Marvels and the Washington Senators locked up in an exciting one-run game at Napolean Park.  The final score was the Michigan Marvels 6, the Washington Senators 5 in 11 innings.

The game was deadlocked at 5 after nine full innings.  Michigan won the game in the 11th inning.  Wil Myers drew a walk.  Eugenio Suarez was a strikeout victim, unable to help out.  One out later, Alex Verdugo was walked intentionally.  Kyle Tucker was up next and he doubled giving Michigan the win as 47,413 happy fans joyfully celebrated.  Michigan managed 9 hits in their victory. 

James Kaprielian (5-3) got the win allowing no runs in 3 and 1/3 innings. Art Warren (0-1) was the loser in relief.  Although losing the contest, he whiffed 4 batters in 1 and 2/3 innings. 

The Michigan ballclub's record now stands at 73-43.  Andrew Phelps was pretty down after the loss.  "We've really been sputtering along lately, something like 0-10 in the last week or two.  We're a much better team than that."

Trea Turner had 4 hits at Napolean Park as the Michigan Marvels won in dramatic fashion coming back to beat the Shoreline Sockeyes by the count of 4 to 3.

Michigan erupted with the game winning runs in the 9th inning with 2 runs utilizing 2 base hits.  After an out was recorded, Justin Upton began therally when he drew a walk.  Turner stepped up to the plate and he singled. Turner got a great jump and stole second easily.  Alex Verdugo followed next and he stroked a base-hit giving Michigan the win as 27,019 happy fansjoyfully celebrated.  Michigan had 11 hits for the game and Shoreline had 6.

James Kaprielian (6-3) went 2 innings allowing 1 run for the victory. CraigKimbrel (2-3) suffered the loss in relief.  He gave up 1 run and 2 hits without retiring a batter. 

Will Polumbo was ebullient (e.bul.lient  /jboolyent) after the game.

Corbin Burnes mowed down 12 Hudson batters as the Michigan Marvels beat the Hudson Gunners by a score of 5 to 1. Michigan pitchers totaled 19 Strikeouts for the Game!!

Burnes (9-2) was solid in the win.  He allowed just 1 hit and no walks in 6 innings.  Michigan rapped out 7 hits for the night. 

Griffin Jax (1-1) was the loser in relief.  Michigan knocked him around a bit, as he gave up 4 runs in 3 innings.  "Everything felt great" Burnes said. "I had a good fastball, it was like pitching to a Little League team. I felt I could throw it by everybody tonight."

First baseman Yandy Diaz hit for the cycle and had 2 RBI as the Michigan Marvels clobbered the outmatched Hudson Gunners, 14 to 2.

Diaz had a good evening at the plate (ya think??).  He doubled in the 3rd inning, smashed a solo-shot out of the park in the 5th inning, tripled plating a run in the 6th inning and stroked a single in the 8th inning.  For the game Michigan out-hit Hudson 17 to 9. 

Wil Crowe (2-1) got the win allowing 2 runs in 6 innings. J.A. Happ (2-9) was hit with the loss.  He served up 4 homeruns in his 8 innings. 

With this win, Michigan has a division leading 54-26 record.  They have been 4-6 lately.  Hudson can't seem to snap out of their recent "funk".  Now they have a miserable 0-10 record over the last couple weeks.

WEB GEMS- Top 5th: Rocky Mountain turns a triple play!


Kevin Gausman struck out 11 batters as the Kona Coast Coffee Growers defeated the Rocky Mountain Oysters by the score of 1 to 0 at Centennial Field.

Gausman (4-6) was indeed brilliant as he hand-cuffed the Rocky Mountain offense.  He was stingy on the mound, allowing just 4 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings improving his ERA from 3.88 to 3.44.  Rocky Mountain proved to be no trouble in the bottom of the 9th. 

Cole Irvin (2-4) was tagged with the loss.  Gausman was asked about his big strikeout performance, 'Well, it's a little odd when you rack up these numbers on the road - and get the cheers from the crowd on the Road. They were keeping a running tally in the stands, just like they used to do at my Alma Mater, Grandview High School. I remember that Manager Fleischman used to Umpire games for us... but that REALLY was a LONG TIME AGO. But it's nice, and kind of strange to have the opposing crowd cheer you on in the game!"

 

WEEK  10  -  GAME # 3  NORTHWEST OHIO FRANCONIANS at MISSISSIPPI BIG ORANGE

Shohei Ohtani carried a no-hitter into the 9th inning as the Mississippi Big Orange defeated the NW Ohio Franconians by a score of 3 to 1 at Zelkind Field.

Ohtani (3-2) dominated NW Ohio hitters.  He gave up just 1 hit and 3 walks in 9 innings.  Ohtani mowed down 15 NW Ohio batters lowering his ERA to 2.45.  The right-handed Ohtani lost his chance for a no-hitter when Brett Gardner singled with nobody out in the 9th inning.  The teams had been locked in a scoreless duel until the 7th inning. 

Mike "Doctor Evil" Mayers (0-2) was tagged with the loss in relief.  When asked about his strikeout total for the game, Ohtani offered, "The fan's really got into it. It is fun to feel their energy up there in the stands. Fortunately, I kept them busy tonight - of course, it would be
all for naught ??????   = (all for naught in Japanese) without the 'W'."

Game 3 - 9th inning rally:

Albany up 6 - 5, brings in Kendall Graveman to close, with all of a 6.5% chance for a RHH to get on base via a walk. Michael Taylor and Jorge Polanco both ground out which brings up righty Ke'Bryan Hayes who had pinch hit earlier for lefty Kyle Seager. (and singled).

Hayes rolls a corner shot 6 - 2 that finds one of Graveman's walks. up comes lefty David Peralta. The roll is 4 - 8 for a single 1 - 15. Knowing my history vs. Ralph, I start to pack up... but behold!  The split is 11.

Hayes decides to go for 3rd 1 - 13 chance. Why the heck not? It's close but Hayes is safe and Peralta takes 2nd. Up comes Eloy Jimenez with about a 16% chance of getting on base vs. Graveman.

The roll is 2 - 12 for a BPSi 1 - 18. Is this where I get "Ralphed?"

Noooo!!! The split is a 5. Hayes scores the tying run, Peralta has to hold at 3rd. Up comes Nick Solak. Albany brings in Louis Head to pitch. The roll is a 2 - 7, Single 1-19. This has to be where history repeats itself.

But, Noooo!!! again The split is a lowly 2, scoring Peralta with the winning run.

Miguel Rojas jacked one out of the ballyard and had 4 RBI as the Gilead Gunslingers topped the NW Ohio Franconians by a score of 10 to 5 at Jericho Hill Park.

Rojas had a good day at the plate.  He stroked a base-hit in the 3rd inning, and slammed a 3-run Home Run in the 4th inning.  Gilead totaled 13 hits on the afternoon. 

The win went to Chris Flexen (4-4) who allowed 3 runs in 7 innings. Spencer Turnbull (0-2) was tagged with the loss.  He gave up 6 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings of work.

June 19 - Brett Gardner started and ended the scoring for the Franconians with bookend solo shots in the 1st and 9th inning.  NW Ohio put up 3 total runs but Hudson clawed back to tie it in the 6th.  They traded runs in the 7th to keep the score tied before Gardner played hero in the 9th.  Willi Castro, Adam Duvall and Garrett Cooper all homered for the Gunners.

The Mob beat up on the Gunners 7-0.  Garrett Hampson went 5-5 with a home run and 2 RBI.  Taylor Hearn pitched 5 2/3 shutout innings for his 2nd win.  Orlando Mercado homered and doubled while Ke'Bryan Hayes went 3-5 to raise his average to .360.  With the loss, Hudson falls to 10-53.  Adolis Garcia went 1-11 with 7 K's and has not homered since May 30th.

Enrique Hernandez knocked 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI and Shane Bieber came through with a solid 6 innings at Phelps Phield as the Seattle Pilots embarrassed the Hudson Gunners by the lopsided score of 14 to 1.

Hernandez was spectacular at the plate.  The hometown fans showed their appreciation with a standing ovation his last time at bat.  He smacked a single in the 2nd inning, belted a three-run homer in the 4th inning and clubbed a two-run home run in the 7th inning.  Seattle provided plenty of action in the 2nd inning when they had 4 runs on 6 hits.  Overall Seattle out-hit Hudson 20 to 8. 

Bieber (7-3) was the winner allowing 1 run in 6 innings. J.A. Happ (1-6) ended up with the loss.

German Marquez dominated striking out 10 Richmond batters as the Washington Senators man-handled the Richmond Banshees - the final score was 16 to 1.

Jose Ramirez enjoyed a fine evening at the plate.  He doubled bringing home two baserunners in the 6th inning and rifled a three-run blast in the 7th inning.  Washington kept the scorekeepers busy in the 6th inning with 6 runs on 4 hits and the 7th inning when they had 6 runs on 6 hits.  Richmond was out-hit by Washington, 15 hits to 9. 


The win was credited to Marquez (7-1) who went 7 and 1/3 innings allowing 1 run. Kenta Maeda (0-1) was the loser.  Kevin Martin was impressed with Marquez and his 10 strikeouts.  "It's tough to generate runs if you can't make contact with the ball."

The score was tied at 10 after nine.  Richmond won it in the 10th inning. After an out was recorded, Lorenzo Cain singled.  Jon Berti came next and he doubled giving Richmond the win as 40,471 happy fans joyfully celebrated. Richmond had a total of 13 hits for the game. 

The victory went to Diego Castillo (3-1) who went 1 and 1/3 innings, allowing 2 runs. The loss was charged to Randy Dobnak (0-1) in relief.  Eugenio Suarez cracked 2 homeruns but it wasn't enough for Michigan.

Adam Wainwright delivered 7 solid innings at T-Mobile Park as the Volbeat Ghost Archers beat the Shoreline Sockeyes 1 to 0.

The game was won by Volbeat when they scored a run in the 9th inning.  After an out was recorded, Matt Olson blasted a solo shot.  Volbeat finished with just 4 hits in the victory. 

Richard Rodriguez (1-0) was the winner allowing no runs in 1 inning. Lucas Sims earned his 1st save.  The loss was charged to Brent Suter (0-1) in relief.

Center fielder Mike Trout slammed 2 homeruns and Trevor Rogers took a no-hitter into the 6th inning at T-Mobile Park where the Shoreline Sockeyes beat the Fenway Faithful 13 to 5.

Trout provided much of the offense.  He lost the ball over the fence for three runs in the 3rd inning and brought the hometown folks to their feet with a Grand Slammer in the 7th inning.  Shoreline finished with 12 hits while Fenway ended up with 5. 

The victory was credited to Rogers (2-3) who went 7 innings, allowing 2 runs. The left-handed Rogers had his no-hit bid broken up by Carlos Correa who singled with nobody out in the 6th inning.  Tyler Mahle (2-3) took the loss. He surrendered just 2 hits and 1 walk in 6 innings. 

John Moscariello was asked about the performance of Rogers, "I taught him everything about pitching! He had his good stuff out there (for a change) this afternoon.  The fans really get into it when the strikeouts start mounting up - and that seems to give him even more adrenalin."

WEEK  7  -  GAME # 1  FENWAY FAITHFUL at SHORELINE SOCKEYES

Sandy Alcantara had a strong outing and J.D. Martinez blasted a homerun and had 3 RBI as the Fenway Faithful, using better "bait", beat up on the floundering Shoreline Sockeyes 5 to 1..."hook, line, and sinker" at T-Mobile Park.

Fenway scored 3 runs in the decisive top of the 3rd inning with the help of 3 hits.  After an out was recorded, Carlos Correa opened up the rally as he doubled.  Nicky Lopez stepped into the batter's box and he singled.  Martinez then smacked a three-run homer.  That early run support was enough for Alcantara (3-2) and Fenway.  Neither team managed to score after the 4th inning. 

Luis Castillo (2-6) was given the loss.  By giving up 5 runs in 7 innings his ERA increased from 3.12 to 3.54.  The win by Fenway was very good news as they had been 1-9 of late.  Now their seasonal record improves to 16-9.  John Moscariello was pretty down after the loss.  "We've forgotten that the goal is to WIN games by getting more than 1 hit every time we go out to play!"  "We've been sputtering along lately, playing poorly... something along the lines that Fenway was doing (like going 1-9 in the last week or two)... and that simply WON'T GET IT DONE!

Shoreline goes 1-2 against Stanford with all games being decided by 1 run.

Shoreline finishes April 3-9 at home.  If having Willians Astudillo hit .360 and lead the team with 4 RBIs during 12 games is a highlight, I guess that's the one highlight.

WEEK # 1 - GAME # 1  MISSISSIPPI BIG ORANGE at GILEAD GUNSLINGERS

Javier Baez had 3 base hits at Jericho Hill Park where the Gilead Gunslingers beat the Mississippi Big Orange by the score of 9 to 7.

Gilead came up with 4 runs in the 5th inning when they came up with 5 base hits. The critical plate appearance was by Miguel Rojas who made the crowd come alive when he smacked a three-run homer.  Mississippi was not lacking for run support as they scored in 5 separate innings, yet victory eluded them as they seemed to forget that pitching is also needed to win ballgames.

Ian Anderson (1-0) picked up the victory, allowing 3 runs in 6 innings. Andrew Chafin recorded the save, his 1st.  Mike Foltynewicz (0-1) was the losing pitcher. 

"I just wanted to give my team a chance to win." said Anderson, "I got burned on a couple of pitches. But we won the game, and that's all that matters."

WEEK # 1 - GAME # 3  RICHMOND BANSHEES at HOUSTON HAMMERS 

Right fielder Kevin Pillar connected with a winning Home Run, as the Richmond Banshees outscored the Houston Hammers in 10 innings 6 to 5.

Both teams had scored 5 runs after nine full innings.  Richmond won the game in the 10th inning.  Jon Berti drew a walk.  Berti took second on a stolen base.  One out later, Chas McCormick was next to bat, but he was a strikeout victim.  Adam Frazier came up and he drew a walk.  Lorenzo Cain came to the plate and stroked a single scoring the run.  Cain took second on the throw. Richmond finished with 13 hits in the victory. 

Tim Mayza (1-0) allowed no runs in 2 innings, and picked up the victory. Hunter Strickland (0-1) was the losing pitcher in relief.  He pitched 1 and 2/3 innings and surrendered no hits and 2 walks.

WEEK # 1 - GAME # 3  GREENSBORO SMOKE at ROCKY MOUNTAIN OYSTERS

Rocky Mountain Oysters won a dramatic crowd-pleaser over Greensboro Smoke at Centennial Field pulling it out in their last at bats, 7 to 6.

The game was won by Rocky Mountain when they scored a run in the 9th inning. George Springer delivered a one-base hit.  Andrew Benintendi followed and he doubled giving Rocky Mountain the win and sending the home town fans into a frenzy.  Rocky Mountain had 10 hits for the night. 

The real excitement occured in the bottom of the 7th inning, when the Oyters overcame a 5 to 2 deficit.

The inning started off with a harmeless walk to DH Yordan Alvarez. After a force out, George Springer blasted a deep Home Run into the leftfield bleachers to make the score 5 to 4. 

 Alex Vesia came on to relieve, and struck out Andrew Benintendi. Luis Garcia came on to pitch to Whit Merrifield, but Manager Fleischman sent up Riley Adams to hit. Adams hit a routine groundball that went right through the legs of 2nd baseman (2 e6) Tommy Edman. Niko Goodrum came on to pinch run, and promptly stole 2nd base! Trevor Story was the next batter... and he rifled a Double down the Leftfield line on a 2-7 roll, getting a "1" on a Double 1-2 flyB 3-20 which  tied the score at 5 to 5. 

Manager Nielsen brought in Jeffrey Springs to face D.J. Lemahieu, who got a 6-12 roll, GB 2bX. Tommy Edman obviously needed a bigger glove, as the split roll was a "2" for a Single into Rightfield, giving the Oysters a 6 to 5 lead! 

Dominic Leone came in to try to  hold onto the lead in the 9th inning... but... he issued a 2-7 walk to Ryan McMahon, and a Single to pinch hitter Brett Phillips. Manager Fleischman checked his options and match-ups, and decided to leave Leone in the game. It seemed like the right move. The next batter, Tucker Barnhart, hit a Fly Ball to Right Field... but McMahon didn't try to score. Leone was left in the game, but issued walks to the next two batters to tie the score at 6 to 6. Cedric Mullins popped out on a 2-6 roll and Odubel Herrera grounded out 4-11 to 2nd Base.

We won the game in the bottom of the 9th, as George Springer got a Ballpark Single and scored from 1st Base on a 5-6 Double 1-9 with the roll being a 5.

The victory went to Dominic Leone (1-0) who went 1 inning, allowing 1 run. Michael Lorenzen (0-2) was the loser in relief.  He was unable to retire a batter and surrendered 2 hits and no walks.

WEEK # 2 - GAME # 1  HUDSON GUNNERS at RICHMOND BANSHEES

Justin Turner cracked a homer at Battle Grounds as the smoking-hot Richmond Banshees won in dramatic fashion, coming back to beat the Hudson Gunners by the count of 7 to 6.

Richmond scored the decisive runs in a big bottom of the 9th inning scoring 5 runners on 3 hits.  The biggest moment was provided by Lorenzo Cain who made the crowd happy when he slapped a base-hit which was good for two runs. Richmond totaled 8 hits on the night. 

The victory went to Garrett Richards (1-0) who went 2 innings, allowing no runs. Sean Doolittle (0-1) was the loser in relief.  He pitched 2/3 of an inning, allowing no hits and 1 walk.

"Now that is what I call fun! I just love baseball, especially games like this, of course," Kevin Martin offered.  "Everyone at the stadium had a great time - did you see the fans go wild there at the end?!"
