History was made in Richmond as Dylan Cease (3-1) tossed a no-hitter and the Richmond Banshees defeated the Virginia Destoyers by the score of 6 to 0. Cease gave the home town fans an afternoon that they'll never forget. He walked 2 Virginia batters. The tension was mounting with every inning after the 6th. Cease appeared oblivious himself to the mounting history until two were out in the 9th. Only then, did he allow himself one deep sigh and a slow trip around the mound. Cease whiffed an impressive total of 11 Virginia batters. Richmond had a total of 10 hits for the game.

The losing pitcher was Clayton Kershaw (0-1). What a show!' Kevin Martin said. ''Cease was great out there -- I'm happy that he got it."

WEEK 1 - MISSISSIPPI BIG ORANGE at GILEAD GUNSLINGERS

ANOTHER NO-HITTER.... TWO OF THEM IN THE 1ST BLOCK

Gilead opens up their season in week 1 against Mississippi. 

Pitching was the name of the game in this series as both offenses struggled throughout. 

Game 1

Pitchers duel between Dean Kreemer and Ranger Suarez. Neither starter gave up any runs and it became a battle of the bullpens. Game was still scoreless heading into the bottom of the 9th. CJ Cron hits a 1 out double and Eli White comes in to pinch run. He moves to 3rd on a Rojas sac fly. After pinch hitter Josh Naylor is walked, Nick Senzel comes to the plate. Senzel sends everyone home with a walk off single as Gilead wins their home opener 1-0.

Game 2

Another pretty good pitchers duel between Michael Wacha and Chris Flexen. Both give up just 2 runs each and it is tied 2-2 going into bottom of the 8th. CJ Cron pinch hits for Josh Naylor and goes yard to give Gilead a 3-2 lead. David Bednar tries to close it out for Gilead but Anthony Rizzo homers to tie the score at 3-3. In the bottom of the 9th catcher PJ Higgins leads off with a double, and Javy Baez comes in to pinch run. He goes to 3rd on a Victor Robles sacrifice bunt. Miguel Rojas up next hits a shallow fly ball to center, Baez can try and tag needing a 1-7 role. Baez takes off and scores with a roll of 4, to give Gilead another walk off win 4-3

Game 3

Another pitchers duel in game 3 as the teams combine for just 5 hits total. Ian Anderson for Gilead surprisingly gives up just 1 un-earned run on 3 hits. Shohei Ohtani goes 8 innings for Mississippi giving up just 2 hits. But 1 was a two run double by Vlad Guerrero Jr. Stratton, Ottavino and Bednar were perfect in the 7th, 8th and 9th respectively and Gilead takes the game 2-1 and a series sweep to star the year. 

After the series coach Nick DiIorio was impressed with the teams pitching but the offense has to come around if they hope to contend this year. For the series Gilead batted just .167 with only 2 HRs (the last couple years Gilead has popped quite a few HRs especially at hitter friendly Jericho Hill Park) But have to be happy with the pitching, except for the blown save in game 2 the pitching was excellent with a series ERA of 1.00 and a 0.78 WHiP while holding Mississippi to a team BA of .129

Zac Gallen mowed down 10 Stanford batters as the Kona Coast Coffee Growers topped the Stanford Robber by a score of 1 to 0 at Coffee Grounds.

Gallen (1-0) was indeed brilliant as he hand-cuffed the Stanford offense.  He allowed just 5 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings.  Kona Coast managed 7 hits in their victory. 

Gerrit Cole (0-1) was the losing pitcher.  He struck out 12 batters in 8innings despite losing the game.  Gallen was jubilant in the hometown clubhouse, "It was a lot of fun out there.  The fans gave me a lot of support as did my teammates.  We got the victory and I'll sure take 10 strikeouts anytime!"

WEEK 1 - GAME # 2

The Houston Hammers pitching staff gave the fans an evening that they'll never forget by tossing a combined no-hitter! The tension started to build around the 6th inning.  By the 9th inning the crowd was electrified.  Houston managed only 3 hits on the night. 

Glenn Otto (1-0) was the winner allowing no runs in 6 innings. Evan Phillips recorded the save, his 1st.  David Peterson (0-1) was the losing pitcher.

"You probably have a better chance of winning the lottery than this happening," said Otto who got credit for the win, "I don't expect it to sink in for awhile." he said. "You know, it's hard to say who was better, thestarter or the bullpen!"

Sandy Alcantara went 9 solid innings at Coffee Grounds where the Fenway Faithful beat the Kona Coast Coffee Growers in 16 innings by the score of   2 to 0.

Neither team managed to score in the first nine innings.  Fenway came out on top in the 16th inning.  J.D. Davis led off the inning for Fenway when he drew a walk.  J.D. Martinez was next to the plate, but was promptly struck out.  Salvador Perez then was hit by a pitch.  Marcus Semien was next to bat, but he was a strikeout victim.  Ian Happ came up to bat and drew a walk to load the bases.  Alex Bregman extended the rally and reached on an error bringing home two baserunners.  Kona Coast out-hit Fenway 7 to 4, but Fenway ended up with more runs. 

Michael Fulmer (1-0) was the winner allowing no runs in 1 inning. Giovanny Gallegos was credited with his 2nd save.  Spencer Strider (0-1) was the losing pitcher in relief.  It was a tough loss for him as he did not allow an earned run in his 2 and 2/3 innings of work.

Right fielder Seth Brown homered and had 3 RBI as the NW Ohio Franconians

bested the Michigan Marvels in 13 innings 6 to 5 at Napolean Park.

The score was knotted at 5 after nine innings.  NW Ohio won it in the 13th inning.  After an out was recorded, Mark Canha laced a single.  Sam Haggerty was next and he doubled.  Brown then was walked intentionally.  Chris Taylor followed next and he slapped a one-base hit scoring the run.  NW Ohio had a total of 9 hits for the game. 

Robert Stephenson (2-1) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the victory. Jake Woodford recorded his 1st save.  Kutter Crawford (0-1) was the loser inrelief.

WEEK 15 # 3 - RICHMOND BANSHEES at ROCKY MOUNTAIN OYSTERS

The Rocky Mountain Oysters tallied 5 runs in the 6th inning and and the Richmond Banshees locked up in an exciting one-run game at Centennial Field. The final score was the Rocky Mountain Oysters 7, the Richmond Banshees 6.

Rocky Mountain brought 5 runs across the plate in the bottom of the 6th inning when they came up with 5 base hits.  The key at-bat was by Brian Anderson who thrilled the crowd when he tripled plating three runs.  Richmond had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short. 

The win was credited to Zach Plesac (4-5) who went 6 innings during one of his poorest outings... as he allowed 6 runs. Dylan Floro got the save, his 12th.  Carlos Carrasco(5-5) was given the loss. He allowed Rocky Mountain 7 runs in 5 and 1/3 innings of work. 

"We won because for once, the Manager didn't "over-manage", Jeff Fleischman said after the game.  "This is why we practice things over and over and over, so when we get in close games, we're usually too tired... and just flat out LOSE.... but in this game, we just didn't make mistakes.'

WEEK 16 # 3 - ALBANY INTERNATIONALS at SEATTLE PILOTS

Catcher Will Smith hit 2 doubles and had 4 RBI at Phelps Phield where the incredible Seattle Pilots beat the Albany Internationals by the score of 7 to 4.

Seattle promptly took the lead in their half of the first as they scored 4 runs on 4 base hits.  The key at-bat was by Mike Yastrzemski who came through for the home fans when he lifted one out of the park for a two run home run.Seattle banged out 9 hits on the night. 

The win went to Max Fried (11-4) who allowed 3 runs in 6 innings. Edwin Diaz recorded his 29th save.  Lance Lynn(7-5) took the loss.  He was not very effective, surrendering 5 runs in 4 and 2/3 innings. 

WEEK 18 # 3 - VIRGINIA DESTROYERS at ROCKY MOUNTAIN OYSTERS

Marcell Ozuna ripped 2 homeruns at Centennial Field where the Virginia Destoyers beat the Rocky Mountain Oysters by the score of 6 to 5.

Ozuna led the offense for Virginia. He doubled in the 2nd inning, delivered a solo blast in the 4th inning and hit a bases-empty home run in the 5th inning. Rocky Mountain threatened in the 9th but Virginia was able to put down the rally.

The win went to Chris Bassitt (5-9) who allowed 4 runs in 6 innings. Jonathan Loaisiga preserved the game for Bassitt, recording his his 8th save. Zach Plesac (6-6) who has been incredibly great over the past 4 starts was the losing pitcher. He surrended 4 homeruns (OUCH!!) in his 6 innings. "You have to give Rocky Mountain credit, they fought us tough to the end" Keith Riggs said. "It could have gone either way, but I'm glad we pulled out the victory."

WEEK 14 - GAMEs # 1, # 2 and # 3 

Shoreline's bats stay strong to sweep the Smoke

Game 1:  Triston McKenzie vs Kyle Freeland

Shoreline started July at home and gave the crowd what they wanted to see, well mostly.  The Sockeyes were stuggling with usage so fan favorite Mike Trout was put on the bench. The Sockeyes didn't need thelp as they got to Freeland early and often.  Albert Pujols proved to be Freeland's kryptonite as we went 3-3 against Freeland with a double and 2 homeruns.  He finished up with a 4-5 line with 2 doubles, 2 home runs.  The Smoke showed off some power, with Kirilloff and Gorman going deep.  However, both were solo shots.  

Shoreline 13, Greensboro 2

Game 2:  Michael Lorenzen vs Adam Wainwright

Shoreline came out swinging in game 1 but started out cold.  Both starters pitched around some early baserunners but Greensboro struck first thanks to a solo home run by Kyle Schwarber.  Shoreline couldn't get anything going until the bottom of the 6th.  Down 1-0, the inning didn't start well.  Lorenzen struck out Hosmer and Altuve.  However, Shoreline got a solo home run by Adley Rutschman to tie the game.  The Sockeyes loaded the bases for Ramon Urias, who came through with a two run single.  Shoreline added some insurance in the 8th, with the big blow being a 3 run home run by Mitch Haniger.

Shoreline 7, Greensboro 1

Game 3:  Luis Severino vs Mitch Keller

The Sockeyes once again started out as cold.  Greensboro once again started the scoring, going up 1-0 on a sac fly by Barnhart.  Severino was locked in until a solo home run by Mitch Haniger tied the score.  Tied at 1, Shoreline chose the 6th inning to unload. After a leadoff out by Rutschman, the Sockeyes went walk, HBP, walk, to load the bases.  The smoke couldn't find the plate, walking in two runs.  WIth the bases still loaded, Mitch Haniger got an RBI single (4-1), Suzuki reached on an error (5-1), and Hosmer got another RBI single (6-1).  The Smoke broke in Velasquez to stop the damage.  Things looked promising with a strike out of Rutschman, but Aaron Judge came through with a 2 out grand slam.  Up 10-1, Shoreline scored 3 more in the 7th and 2 more in the 9th.

All the stars aligned for the Sockeyes as we seemed to get all the rolls.

WEEK 13 - GAME # 3 
 
SHORELINE SOCKEYES at ROCKY MOUNTAIN OYSTERS

I replayed Game # 3, and you're not gonna be happy. I'm not making this result up... I played competitively.... trying to win... AND I DID. It's just one of those...

             

NO!!  It's not one of those "I can't believe it's not Butter!... It's actually one of those...

"I can't believe my team actually came back" kind of game.... that DON'T HAPPEN VERY OFTEN.

WEEK 18  GAME # 3

CHICAGO MOB at VOLBEAT GHOST ARCHERS

In an exciting finish the Volbeat Ghost Archers pulled out a win over the Chicago Mob by a score of 5 to 4 at Sabaton Battlefield.

The game was won by Volbeat with a run in the bottom of the 9th inning.  Max Muncy doubled.  Two outs later Ronald Acuna came to bat and was walked intentionally.  Jonathan India then stroked a one-base hit, and an error was also committed, making Volbeat the victors to the delight of the home town faithful.  Volbeat and Chicago each finished the afternoon with 9 hits.

Carlos Estevez (1-1) picked up the victory, allowing 2 runs in 1 inning. The losing pitcher was Jimmy Herget (2-2) in relief.  He pitched 1/3 of an inning allowing 2 hits and no walks.

WEEK 22 - GAME # 1

ROCKY MOUNTAIN OYSTERS at GILEAD GUNSLINGERS

Kyle Gibson (12-5) was on top of his game in Gilead as he tossed a beauty of a no-hitter against the Rocky Mountain Oysters.  The Gilead Gunslingers won by a score of 14 to 0.

Gibson provided a brilliant, unforgettable performance for the hometown crowd at Jericho Hill Park this evening.  He walked just one Rocky Mountain batter. 

The tension built to a fever pitch.  After the 8th inning, everybody in the ballpark was anticipating what would happen in the 9th.  Gibson whiffed an impressive total of 12 Rocky Mountain batters.  Gilead had a total of 16 hits for the game. 

Aaron Sanchez (0-2) was the losing pitcher.  He was touched for 4 homeruns in his 7 innings of work.  "Gibson was simply incredible" losing pitcher Sanchez said.  "I hate to admit this, but I'd pay to watch a man pitch like that."

WEEK 19  GAME # 2  BUSTER'S BATTALION at ROCKY MOUNTAIN OYSTERS

The Rocky Mountain Oysters and the woeful Buster's Battalions locked up in an exciting one-run game at Centennial Field.  The final score was the Rocky Mountain Oysters 7, the woeful Buster's Battalions 6.

Rocky Mountain wasted no time and took the lead in the first inning plating one baserunner.  After an out was recorded, Andrew Benintendi drew a walk. Benintendi swiped second base.  D.J. Lemahieu then drew a walk.  Dane Dunning then let loose a wild pitch.  Ty France stepped into the box and would ground out scoring the run.  Buster's made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across. 

Ross Stripling (8-3) went 6 innings allowing 2 runs for the win. Stripling got help from Dylan Floro who was credited with his 18th save.  Dunning (6-10) took the loss.  He got hit pretty hard, allowing 7 hits and 4 walks in 4 and 1/3 innings. 

"We lose our concentration on just about every pitch, and we lose the game." Andy Rosenberg.... uh... uh... uh.... What was I going to say?".... oh yeah... I remember now.... but was I going to say it before the game or after the game?"  "Oh... wait.... this is what I said after the game. Maybe now these guys will listen when I say they have to concentrate on EVERY pitch."

ALBANY INTERNATIONALS at GOTHAM CITY BATMEN

Tony Gonsolin went 5 solid innings as the Albany Internationals defeated the Gotham City Batmen in 14 innings 4 to 3 at Arkham Asylum.

Both teams had scored 3 runs after nine full innings.  Albany won the hardfought contest in the 14th inning.  Yandy Diaz doubled.  Jeff McNeil stepped up to the plate and he slapped a one-base hit scoring the run.  Albany banged out 8 hits on the night. 

The victory went to Jose Leclerc  (4-1) who went 1 and 1/3 innings, allowing no runs. Leclerc got help from Ryan Thompson who earned his 5th save. Seranthony Dominguez (1-2) ended up with the loss in relief. 

WEEK 23 GAME # 2

RICHMOND BANSHEES at N.W. OHIO FRANCONIANS

Jameson Taillon mowed down 10 Richmond batters as the NW Ohio Franconians crushed the Richmond Banshees 12 to 0.

Mark Canha had a good evening at the plate.  He delivered a single bringing home two baserunners in the 2nd inning, smashed a solo-shot out of the park in the 4th inning and lined a base-hit in the 7th inning.  Overall NW Ohio out-hit Richmond 11 to 6. 

The winning pitcher was Taillon(9-11) who allowed no runs in 7 innings. Bryce Elder (2-3) was the losing pitcher.  Everyone seemed to enjoy the performance of Taillon - except Richmond.  Kevin Martin lamented, "He just was "ON" tonight.  He was keeping our guys off balance all game.  A fine game by a good strikeout pitcher - makes it a fun game for the hometown fans - unfortunately we were the visitors!"

WEEK # 23 

SEATTLE PILOTS at ROCKY MOUNTAIN OYSTERS

Game # 1 - Trevor Story slammed 2 home runs and scored 3 times at Centennial Field as the Rocky Mountain Oysters beat the Seattle Pilots 6 to 3.

The home town fans were very appreciative of the fine hitting performance provided by Story.  He doubled in the 1st inning, smashed a solo-shot out of the park in the 4th inning and blasted a solo shot in the 7th inning.  Both teams totaled 8 hits on the afternoon. 

Cole Irvin (9-12) went 7 innings allowing 3 runs for the win. Austin Davis earned the save, his 1st.  Rony Garcia (2-2) was hit with the loss.  He was not very effective, surrendering 4 runs in 3 and 1/3 innings. 

Game # 2 - The incredible... yes, incredible Seattle Pilots edged the Rocky Mountain Oysters at Centennial Field by the score of 2 to 1.

Seattle scored the deciding run in the 8th inning.  After two were out Brandon Nimmo hit a bases-empty home run.  Seattle finished with 8 hits while Rocky Mountain ended up with 5. 

Camilo Doval (3-0) got the win allowing no runs in 1 inning. Doval got relief help from Cionel Perez who gained credit for his 2nd save.  Mychal Givens (1-5) absorbed the loss in relief.  He gave up 1 hit and no walks in 1 inning. 

The pitching "line" for Rocky Mountain made this game weird. I mean, who would think that my guy would pitch so good. For sure, he pitched outside of his card and stats.

His card is "decent" for someone who gave up 20 more hits than IP, and had a 6.60 ERA. He basically held you guys to NOTHING, and "lowered" his Oyster's ERA to 10.06. But Givens made a mistake in relief, and you were able to win the game by one run!

Game # 3 - Another really close game. I never thought that I'd be able to hang this tough with your (see Game # 2 adjective) "incredible" team!!

13,763 fans (yes... the crowds are getting smaller and smaller with every Home Game!) were treated to a fine game at Centennial Field as only one run separated the combatants at game's end.  The strong Seattle Pilots won by the slimmest of margins, 4 to 3.

Seattle tallied 2 runs in the top of the 6th inning.  The biggest moment was provided by Teoscar Hernandez who deflated the spirits of the home town crowd when he bombed a two-run dinger.  Rocky Mountain made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across. 

Garrett Cleavinger (1-0) got the win allowing 3 runs in 2 and 1/3 innings. Brady Singer gained credit for his 2nd save.  Austin Davis (0-1) ended up with the loss in relief.  He pitched 1 inning allowing 2 hits and 1 walk.

"We just made a lot of mistakes, mostly mental,' Jeff Fleischman said. "It's bad enough when the other team beats you, but when you start beating yourselves, that's really bad." It's a real slap in the face. It's even worse when the League Administrator SLAPS YOU IN THE FACE!

                                      A 21 INNING GAME!!

Right fielder Hunter Renfroe smacked 2 triples as the Virginia Destoyers defeated the Houston Hammers in 21 innings by a score of 4 to 2 at Dark Tower.

Both teams had scored 2 runs after nine full innings.  Virginia came out on top in the 21st inning.  Renfroe got things going when he drew a walk.  Bubba Thompson followed next and he reached on an error.  A balk was called plating a run.  Kolten Wong followed and he hit a deep fly scoring the final run of the inning.  Despite losing, Houston out-hit Virginia 19 to 15. 

The win went to Jonathan Loaisiga (1-3) who allowed no runs in 1 and 2/3 innings. James McCann(3-0) was tagged with the loss in relief.  He allowed no hits and 1 walk in 3 innings.
