IN MEMORIAM - Bridgeworks

LAWRENCE GREEN

ANTIOCH COAL MINERS
2002 to 2015

(A GOOD MAN AND A GOOD MANAGER)

Dear G.U.S.S.O.M.O. and Strat-O-Matic fans...

I recently saw a memorium for my ex-husband Lawrence Green on your Website and was touched by it.  He was an Ex, but we still loved each other and were friends.  He loved Strat-O-Matic with a passion, and had been playing it as long as I could remember (since at least 1986 and before).

He and I had been on many baseball trips together, visiting just about every baseball park in the country.  We also visited Cooperstown and many football parks in the country as well.  Lawrence loved his fantasy baseball and football teams tremendously.  It gave him hours of fun and comfort.

I just wanted you to know that, and wonder if you could add it to his memoriam. He was a wonderful man and I miss him tremendously.

Thank you.

Rememberances and comments from G.U.S.S.O.M.O. Managers...

From Mike Lefkow...

Managers:

Wanted to pass along the sad news that former manager Lawrence Green has died after a fight with cancer.

Lawrence was in GUSSOMO from 2002-2015 and managed the Antioch team. He and I roomed together at a couple of summer get-togethers, and we would usually attend a couple of A's or Giants games before he got a new job and moved to Hawaii.

Lawrence was an Oakland police officer and also worked for the UC-Berkeley police.

You can pass along condolences to his wife Monica and teen-aged son Eli on Facebook. She goes by the name Monica Green on Facebook.

Thanks,

Mike

From Ralph Polumbo...

Mike,

Thank you for the update.

I was also aware of Lawrence's illness. He told me just after he received the grave news that he had very little time left- a big shock because he had experienced few symptoms. Even then, he wanted to talk more about things that he needed to do for others before he became too sick.  Those of us who got to know Lawrence through GUSSOMO recognized his extraordinary character- definitely in my pantheon of people who always aspired to the highest ethical and moral standards. The world will miss him.

Lawrence's wife Monica Hatoon Green has posted a beautiful remembrance on her Facebook page that says it all,  and she has asked those that have some special memories of Lawrence to share them with her.

From Larry Steinberg...

I had known about Lawrence's illness for about a month now and am extremely saddened to hear about his passing. As Mike mentioned, he was at many league get-togethers and was fun to be around and play Strat with.

I was with him again only two summers ago at a gathering in St. Paul, MN for another league, MATSA. We roomed together and, as typical of Lawrence, he paid for more than his share of the room and even paid for my dinner one night.

May his memory be for a blessing.

Larry

From Andy Rosenberg...

So sad.  We became friendly at a couple of get togethers.  A very nice man

From Lars Nielsen...

It is sad to hear of Lawrence's passing.  Having joined MATSA recently, he was always someone who was kind and willing to extend grace to the new guy.

Saddened at the loss of another good man.
